Marketing geeks like me have all probably seen Morgan Spurlock’s “The Greatest Movie Ever Sold”. You may remember him from the documentary “Supersize Me” or the T.V. Show “30 Days”.
He made ‘The Greatest Movie Ever Sold‘ ABOUT corporate sponsorship and product placement BY using only corporate sponsorship and product placement cashola! Cool idea but not the main point for today’s post.
One thing that came up in this movie is the fact that the city of Sao Paolo Brazil has outlawed outdoor advertising. That’s right! No outdoor advertising. Those 11-million people stuck in rush hour look at the scenery rather than billboards!
BUT…what would your company do if they outlawed your advertising medium?
What if Facebook died? Twitter? The newspapers? Mail?
What if Word of Mouth was all that you had?
Would people talk about you?
Are the products you provide the best in your category?
Is your customer service better than everyone else?
Does every customer talk about their experience with you after every visit?
If not, why not? What would you have to do to get them talking and why aren’t you doing it now?
One question you should ask yourself every day as you open up shop is…what if word of mouth was all the advertising we had?
The answer….what a wonderful world it would be!
What would your company have to implement in order to survive in a world where all we had was word of mouth?
And why haven’t you started already?
